39th NSDI workshop
On April 23, 2025, the 39th NSDI Workshop was held, organized by the State Geodetic Administration as the National Contact Point for the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) in the form of a webinar via the Microsoft Teams platform. The workshop was intended for selected NSDI subjects: the Croatian Agency for Agriculture and Food, Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries and the Seismological Survey at the Faculty of Science. The goal of the workshop was to support the aforementioned subjects in inclusion in the NSDI through a series of presentations that outlined all the necessary steps in detail.
The first presentation, titled “Everyone Can Easily Find, Understand, and Use Spatial Data”, was held by Tomislav Ciceli, MSc. The presentation described the development of the NSDI in the Republic of Croatia and explained the legal frameworks at the national and European levels. The process of integrating subjects into the NSDI and the obligations arising from it were clarified, in accordance with the NSDI Act (Official Gazette 56/13, 52/18, 50/20). The current results of the Republic of Croatia in fulfilling its obligations were also presented, along with various NSDI products and the technologies used for their establishment and maintenance.
The second presentation was held by Ana Geceg and it was focused on NSDI Registers. The presentation outlined the first step in inclusion in the NSDI, which involves registering subjects in the Register of the NSDI subjects, followed by the registration of spatial data sources under their jurisdiction in the Register of the Spatial Data Sources. After that, Iva Gašparović, PhD, gave a presentation on the NSDI Geoportal, in which the legal foundations of the Geoportal, its components, and the functionalities it offers to users were explained.
The presentation titled “Creating and Updating Metadata” was prepared by Tanja Rodin, MSc. The presentation explained the basic characteristics of metadata, the tools used for their creation and validation, and the most common issues encountered in practice. Concrete examples and recommendations were provided for entering all required metadata elements, with particular emphasis on the importance of understanding data sources in order to produce high-quality and relevant metadata.
The State Geodetic Administration, as the National Contact Point for the NSDI, continues to make efforts to ensure support to NSDI subjects at all stages of inclusion and to enable further establishment and development of the NSDI in the Republic of Croatia.
