World GIS Day 2025

World GIS Day is celebrated every year on the third Wednesday in November, this year on November 19, 2025. Today, geoinformation is an inevitable part of our everyday life, since almost all devices use location in addition to map view and additional layers that complement the contents of various applications.

As an example of the successful use of numerous layers of spatial data from different institutions and putting them at the service of citizens, the State Geodetic Administration has developed the browser and mobile application GeoCroatia. Of particular importance to citizens is the GeoCroatia mobile application, through which spatial data of the Republic of Croatia is available to citizens on the move and at any time. The GeoCroatia mobile application helps citizens both in their daily planning of activities and free time, as well as in long-term planning, such as making decisions about the location for building a house, investments, and numerous other possibilities, which enables the combination of various spatial data to obtain comprehensive information, which is a characteristic of geoinformation systems. 
 
18 NSDI subjects with over 160 spatial data are included in the operation of the GeoCroatia browser. Since its launch, the GeoCroatia mobile application has been downloaded by over 37,000 users. The Geocroatia browser is available at https://geohrvatska.hr/, while the GeoCroatia mobile application can be downloaded for free for Android and iOS systems via the App Store-a and Google Play Store.

Povodom obilježavanja svjetskog dana GIS-a biti će održana brojna predavanja i edukacije pripremljene za sve uzraste kako bi se geoinformacije približile svima, za najmlađe u obliku edukativnih igara te za odrasle u formi istraživanja značajnih procesa koji nas okružuju. Svjetski dan GIS-a obilježava se od 1999. godine.
