This change is part of a broader transfer of key components of the INSPIRE infrastructure to common EU services, aiming to simplify the implementation of the INSPIRE Directive by aligning it with horizontal legislation. Existing metadata and catalogue services are integrated into the European Data Portal system, where metadata is displayed using the DCAT-AP metadata application profile.
Metadata regarding Croatian spatial datasets and network services published on the NSDI Geoportal are harvested and available at the data.europa.eu portal within the catalogue „NIPP Geoportal Croatia“, published by the State Geodetic Administration.
Data.europa.eu acts as a common metadata catalogue that aggregates data descriptions from international, European, national, regional, local, and domain-specific portals. The datasets and network services themselves continue to be maintained in the source systems of their responsible institutions, while European Data Portal enables users to discover and access them via links embedded in the metadata.
The NSDI Geoportal remains the national center point for publishing metadata, as well as for discovering, viewing, and accessing spatial data sources of the Republic of Croatia. Through its integration with data.europa.eu, the metadata of Croatian institutions becomes accessible and searchable within a unified European data ecosystem.
