The European Commission (EC) launched the first version of the European data portal. After the beta version released in November 2015, and after feedback some improvements are made that were ultimately incorporated into the first version, and became available in February this year.
The European Data Portal is developed by the European Commission, Capgemini, INTRASOFT International, Fraunhofer Fokus, con terra, Sogeti, the Open Data Institute, Time.Lex and the University of Southampton.
The Portal provides access to 415,000 datasets harvested from 70 data catalogues in 34 countries (28 European Union member states, the EEA, Switzerland and countries in the EU Neighbourhood Policy programme). Data is sourced from national, regional, local or domain-specific public data providers. There are six language interfaces.
The Eurovoc Thesaurus allows multilingual searching by data category and portal also provides an advanced search function for the discovery of public open data by geographical location.
The aim of this portal is to improve access to information of the public sector with an emphasis on open data and increasing their value.
From the Republic of Croatia Portal is harvesting three following catalogs;
• Catalogue of the City of Zagreb (example of local catalogue)
• The metadata catalog of National Spatial Data Infrastructure (example of national, thematic catalog)
• The catalog of open data (national catalog of open data of the public sector).
