Inclusion of local and regional self-government units in the National Spatial Data Infrastructure

As the National Contact Point for NSDI and INSPIRE, the State Geodetic Administration has initiated activities towards local and regional self-government units in order to be included in the NSDI as subjects pursuant to the National Spatial Data Infrastructure Act (OG 56/13, 52/18, 50/20). According to Article 5 of the NSDI Act, NSDI subjects are public authorities that have the establishment or maintenance of spatial data within their competence, i.e., within their scope. NSDI subjects are obliged to report the spatial data sources for which they are responsible, within the NSDI thematic scope, in the Register of NSDI subjects, the Register of NSDI spatial data sources and the Metadata Catalog on the NSDI geoportal.

The process of including subjects and sources of spatial data in NSDI

During the work and development of NSDI so far, subjects from the national level and only a small number of local and regional self-government units have been involved. Therefore, the National Contact Point implements these activities to raise the level of awareness about NSDI at the local and regional level and to include larger number of local and regional self-government units and spatial data from their competence in the NSDI.

Within the project “Capacity building for the establishment of National Spatial Data Infrastructure” co-financed by the European Social Fund, the State Geodetic Administration will organize workshops that will support the inclusion of new subjects from the regional and local level.
