Metadata is information that describes spatial data and answers questions such as: where can I find the desired spatial data, who is responsible for it, is it in a format that I can use, does this data relate to the area I am interested in, is this data outdated, when was it created and other questions of importance to users. This information is known to most representatives of NSDI subjects who work with spatial data.
