The NSDI Metadata Catalogue is one of the integral parts of the NSDI Geoportal that enables metadata discovery. The metadata of spatial data sources in the NSDI Metadata Catalogue are managed by NSDI subjects in whose jurisdiction apatial data are, and which are obliged to update them regularly. The main purpose of describing spatial data sources with metadata is to quickly, simply and efficiently collect the necessary information for decision-making purposes (decisions on suitability, compliance with certain legal regulations, verification of geographical coverage, etc.).
