Spatial resolution

Definition of the metadata element Spatial resolution is given in the chapter "Baseline metadata for datasets and dataset series" where the way of documenting the spatial resolution for a spatial dataset or spatial dataset series is described.

The limitation of services related to spatial resolution cannot be expressed in this or a similar way in the current version of the ISO 19119 standard. Until the matter is resolved by the standardization community, the spatial resolution limitations for services must be expressed in the Resource abstract metadata element.

Due to the limitations of the ISO 19119 standard, and thus the ISO 19139 XML scheme, the limitation of services related to spatial resolution should be specified in the metadata element Resource abstract (gmd:abstract) in the form of free text, along with other content of the resource abstract. Therefore, the metadata element Resource abstract of spatial data service must contain data on at least one equivalent scale or resolution distance or their limit values, if the spatial resolution is an interval.

Obligation
  • service: mandatory
Example Digital data of cadastral parcels and cadastral municipalities were created by translating analog scale plans from 1: 500 to 1: 5808 into digital form.
Due to the limitations of the ISO 19119 standard, and thus the ISO 19139 XML scheme, the limitation of services related to spatial resolution should be specified in the metadata element Resource abstract (gmd: abstract) in free text, along with other resource summary content.

Technical data

Data type character string (CharacterString)
Domain free text
Implementation instructions Metadata element Resource abstract of the spatial data service must contain information on at least one equivalent scale or resolution distance or their limit values, if the spatial resolution is an interval.

<gco:CharacterString>The basic spatial unit of the real estate cadastre is the cadastral parcel. The cadastral parcel is a part of the area of the cadastral municipality, ie the cadastral area at sea determined by the number of the cadastral parcel and its boundaries. A cadastral municipality is a cadastral spatial unit for which a cadastral operetta is being made. The cadastral municipality, as a rule, includes the area of one inhabited place with the corresponding land. One inhabited place (settlement) can be divided into several cadastral municipalities, ie one cadastral municipality can include several settlements. Digital data of cadastral parcels and cadastral municipalities were created by translating analog scale plans from 1: 500 to 1: 5808 into digital form.<gco:CharacterString>
