40th NSDI Workshop

The State Geodetic Administration organized the 40th NSDI Workshop, held on May 20, 2025, in the form of a webinar via the Microsoft Teams platform.

The purpose of the 40th workshop was the harmonization of spatial data under the jurisdiction of the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service in order to fulfill obligations set by the INSPIRE Directive and the NSDI Act.

Harmonization is the process by which spatial data from the existing model is translated into the model prescribed by the NSDI Act (Official Gazette 56/13, 52/18, 50/20), the INSPIRE Directive, and the accompanying legal framework. This is implemented to provide interoperable spatial data sets available through INSPIRE compliant network services.

For the purpose of the workshop, the FME (Feature Manipulation Engine) software solution was used, which was acquired within the ERDF project “Increasing the availability of NSDI spatial data through e-services.” The aim of this project was to increase the availability of spatial data of public authorities, i.e., NSDI subjects, through the development of INSPIRE compliant network services. The project was implemented by the State Geodetic Administration.

During the workshop, spatial data of digital climatological maps under the jurisdiction of the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service were harmonized, which belong to the INSPIRE theme Meteorological geographical features. The data was successfully harmonized using the FME software, resulting in an output dataset compliant with INSPIRE specifications in *.gml format. The harmonized dataset contains features, layers, and attributes as defined in the INSPIRE Data Specification for the Meteorological geographical features theme.

Upon completion of the workshop, INSPIRE compliant network view and download services for the harmonized dataset will be developed via the transformiraj.nipp.hr platform.

The workshop was attended by employees of the National Contact Point and the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service, while the training was conducted by the company conterra GmbH in cooperation with Multisoft d.o.o.

As the National Contact Point for INSPIRE, the State Geodetic Administration continuously invests efforts to support NIPP subjects in fulfilling their obligations prescribed by the NSDI Act and the INSPIRE Directive. For this purpose, future workshops aimed at NSDI subjects are also being planned.
