On June 13, 2025, the 41st NSDI Workshop was held as a webinar via the Microsoft Teams platform, organized by the State Geodetic Administration. The workshop was organized in cooperation with the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries.
The goal of the workshop was the development of INSPIRE harmonized spatial data sets using the FME software solution, thereby continuing the activities related to the establishment, maintenance, and development of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI).
Data harmonization is one of the fundamental steps in establishing, maintaining, and developing the NSDI, and it can be carried out using various software tools for spatial data transformation. In this case, the FME software solution was used, which was acquired within the ERDF project “Increasing the availability of NSDI spatial data through e-services.” The goal of this project was to increase the availability of spatial data from public authorities, i.e., NSDI subjects, by developing INSPIRE compliant network services, and it was implemented by the State Geodetic Administration.
During this workshop, the focus was on data related to sea salinity and temperature within the INSPIRE theme Oceanographic geographical features. The data was successfully harmonized using the FME tool, ensuring compliance with the technical requirements of the INSPIRE Directive. The FME software solution includes predefined INSPIRE templates that simplifies the harmonization process, as they contain predefined necessary features, geometry, and attributes. As in the previous workshop, the result was a *.gml file containing the harmonized data, for which network view and download services will be developed subsequently.
The harmonization of spatial data in accordance with INSPIRE, and the development of INSPIRE compliant network view and download services, ensures data interoperability at the level of the entire European Union, enabling uniform use across all EU member states.
The workshop was attended by representatives of the National Contact Point and the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries, while the training was conducted by conterra GmbH in cooperation with Multisoft d.o.o.
Data harmonization workshops are an important step in ensuring the interoperability of spatial data and contribute to strengthening cooperation among public authorities in the implementation of the INSPIRE Directive.
