This thematic workshop was intended for selected local self-government units as public authorities that had already completed registration in the NSDI Registers and are obliged to create metadata for spatial data sources within their scope in the Metadata Catalogue on the NSDI Geoportal.
The aim of the workshop was to facilitate the continuation of the process of joining the NSDI for those subjects that have already completed the first step, registering in the NSDI Registers. The topic of the workshop was metadata for registers of communal infrastructures under the scope of local self-government units, with special emphasis on the practical work of participants.

The ultimate goal is to ensure the availability of spatial data under the scope of NSDI subjects in an interoperable manner through the NSDI Geoportal.
The workshop was opened by the Head of the Division of National Spatial Data Infrastructure, Tomislav Ciceli, MSc, who delivered a short introductory speech, highlighting the key objectives of the NSDI and emphasizing the importance of active participation of local self-government units in its further establishment and development.
The workshop program was led by Ana Geceg, Head of the Department for NSDI coordination and interoperability. In the introductory segment, the NSDI Geoportal was presented, including the basic functionalities for searching and viewing spatial data, along with explanations of key metadata elements using practical examples.

During the practical part of the workshop, detailed explanations were provided for individual metadata elements related to registers of communal infrastructure. Particular emphasis was placed on entering the Abstract and Lineage elements, which require the inclusion of relevant legal and technical information and play a key role in informing users about the content and quality of data. In addition to metadata content, the use of the metadata editor and procedures for searching, saving and editing records were also explained.
Throughout the workshop, participants were encouraged to actively work on entering their own metadata with the professional support of the organizers, which further facilitated the metadata creation process.
The State Geodetic Administration, as the National Contact Point for the NSDI, continues to invest efforts in providing support to NSDI subjects in all phases of integration and in enabling the further establishment and development of the NSDI in the Republic of Croatia.
